    Popular Art

With enthusiasm, the whole staff of the ethnography museum has worked very hard and on July 1 st 1978, the Pavilion Museum of Ethnography and Popular Art was inaugurated. Throughout time, this exhibition has been reorganized twice, in 1992, when there were some religious objects brought, and in 2002 when the entire exhibition has been reorganized on the basis of a new theme, and it was given a new look and also a new content. The exhibition presents the traditional occupations, popular handicraft, technical plumbing, traditional port and all kinds of different objects from the four ethnographic areas: Maramures, Lapus, Chioar and Codru. We can especially notice: the collection of masut spoons with its oldest artifact dating back in 1734, the cauce collection, the one of scales, the technical plumbing, the drop press for honeycomb from 1878 and the one for grapes dating back to 1861. Just as spectacularly as old, with a wonderful shape and artistic creativity, are the pieces that belong to the ceramic centers that were functioning in the North of Romania. The most impressive ones and the ones that have the greatest effect on the visiting public are still the glass and wooden icons. Of an inestimable documentary and artistic value are the stamps that belonged to the great priest Mircea Antal from Breb.
